Richmond Griffins Flag
Did you know the City of Richmond has its own flag?
Now it has two.
We’re proud to introduce the Richmond Griffins Rugby Club Flag — a bold reinterpretation of the City of Richmond flag, infused with meaning and rooted in tradition.

The Richmond Griffins Rugby Club flag is a proud reinterpretation of the official City of Richmond flag, reflecting both the city’s historic spirit and the future of youth rugby in Virginia.

The deep blue field pays tribute to the James River, the lifeblood of Richmond’s past and present. As the James River flows with power and resilience, so too does our commitment to nurturing strong, principled young athletes. It also honors our affiliation with the James River Rugby Club, whose legacy inspires our mission.

These bands symbolize the growth, vitality, and unity of the rugby community. Green reflects the fields where we train and compete; white evokes our commitment to integrity, sportsmanship, and inclusiveness. Together, they represent our grassroots foundation and future-forward vision.

At the center of the flag stands the griffin, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. This noble figure represents the courage, discipline, and unity we instill in every player. The lion’s body is a deliberate nod to the Club’s roots in the Richmond Lions Youth Rugby Club, where youth rugby in the city first began to take shape. The eagle’s head connects to our broader rugby heritage—evoking the USA national team—and symbolizes vigilance, strength, and the soaring aspirations of our athletes. Together, the griffin stands as a guardian of tradition and a champion of growth, embodying the fierce pride of Richmond’s rugby legacy.
