Richmond Griffins Headed to the 2026 Carolina Ruggerfest

The Richmond Griffins Rugby Club is excited to announce that our U14, U16, and 18U teams will be traveling to compete in the 2026 Carolina Ruggerfest, taking place February 28 – March 1, 2026 in Matthews, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte.

Carolina Ruggerfest is one of the premier youth rugby tournaments in the United States, with more than two decades of history and a reputation for high-level competition, outstanding facilities, and a first-class tournament experience. In 2025, the event hosted 80+ teams from 12 states and the Cayman Islands.

Tournament Venue

All matches will be played at the Mecklenburg County SportsPlex at Matthews, which features:

  • 9 full-size rugby fields

  • Dedicated warm-up and practice areas

  • Restroom facilities and concessions

  • Tournament merchandise and vendor village

Griffins Teams Attending

The Richmond Griffins will be entering teams in the following divisions:

  • U14 Boys

  • U16 Boys

  • U19 High School Age Varsity Boys Developmental – meant for newer & rebuilding teams

This event represents an important competitive opportunity for our players to test themselves against strong regional and national competition while representing Richmond on a larger stage.

Travel & Planning Information

Players and families are encouraged to begin making travel plans now, as hotels in the Charlotte/Matthews area are already booking quickly.

The tournament website will serve as the primary hub for event information throughout the weekend, including schedules, real-time scoring, video clips, and live streams.

Additional Opportunities

Tournament organizers have also announced Ruggerfest Eve activities on Friday, February 27, including a USA Rugby Skills Clinic featuring USA Rugby Olympians and Skills Coaches, along with select showcase matches.
